Never in the history of Ghanaian Football has a Premier league club recruited as many as 21 new players for an up coming season. Who else will achieve such a feat other than Heart of Lions. One might be tempered to ask why so many players?. Not only do we want to beef up our current crop of talented players, in a bid to annex the premiership title come next season, but also we at Heart of Lions are bunch of patriotic citizens who love our nation.
Again one might wonder, wherein lies patriotism when a club purchase many players. Well, this is where patriotism comes in. Did you know that the various male national soccer teams of our beloved country, last season used as many as 8 of our stars. I guess you did not. For instance Jerry Akaminko played only 3 games for us because he was always on national assignments and Sadat Bukari also played only six games for the same reason.
The constant inclusion of these and other players of ours in the national teams really took a toll on us as a team, thus affecting our performance during the league. Had it not been for the exclusion of such players from our squad we would have placed better on the league table than we did. We would have probably won the league instead of the fourth position that we placed.
On the other hand if we had opted to do what teams like Hearts of Oak and Ashanti Kotoko usually do, we would have had as many as 10 out-standing league matches. This is because GFA’s laws stipulates that if a club has as many as 3 players on national assignments, the club reserves the right to make that match an outstanding one. However, we at Heart of Lions being soccer loving citizens who want the betterment of the various national teams and the premiership as whole did not resort to that option, but we continued playing with our depleted squad. Notwithstanding, we place fourth at the end of it all.
As stated earlier in a bid to win the upcoming league, which might start in November, and to further help the national cause we have signed as many as 21 new players for colossal amount of 4 Billion cedis, a record yet be matched by any team in the premiership and indeed Ghana as whole. So this time round the nation can use as many as 10 of our stars and we would not be the least bothered. We will still have the men to do the job and will not resort to protest as other clubs do.
Indeed, Heart of Lions is the new force in town and we have come to stay. It is not surprising that we are attracting a lot of good players. We promising all our supporters that come the close of next season the premiership trophy will be at Kpando. Adepa na eton nehu ampa!!!!!
